The LUVRE was named after the experimental setup therein ( Laboratory for UV-Raman Experiments). Due to its versatile construction it is suited for various spectroscopic investigations in the extended visible spectral range (350 - 800 nm). Two of the three gratings (1800 g/mm) can be used either in a subtractive or an additive mode. In the subtractive configuration the first two gratings reduce the stray light; we can do Raman-spectroscopic investigations down to 5 cm-1 with various excitation wavelengths. In the additive configuration (combined with Notch-filters) the spectral resolution is tripled compared to the subtractive mode. Additionally the LUVRE is equipped with three extra gratings, 2400g/mm for higher dispersion in the UV range, and a 600 g/mm and a 150 g/mm grating for luminescence measurements.An argon-ion laser (350-528 nm) and a HeCd-Laser (442, 325nm) serve as standard excitation sources and the detection takes place with a nitrogen-cooled CCD. The spectrometer is equipped with macro as well as a microscope optics. Both can be used with a cryostat for low temperature measurements down to 1.5 K and 4 K. A scanner optics combined with a stepping-motor driven microscope table serves for spatially resolved measurements with a lateral resolution of about 1 µm.
