Semiconductor surface and interface physics


The functionalization of semiconductor surfaces with organic molecules is a highly topical research area and is seen as a key technology for future applications in sensors, biophysics and bioengineering. However, up to date the binding mechanisms and structures are not well-understood. To study the surfaces, different analytical methods are available, including scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and -spectroscopy (STS), photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) as well as Auger electron spectroscopy (AES). Moreover, we are interested in investigating hybrid states of organic molecules and semiconductor nanostructures, such as InGaN quantum wells. These research activities are taking place in close cooperation with the Institute for Analytical Sciences (ISAS) in Berlin.
