Development of quantum light sources for quantum communication systems and metrology

A major goal of our research is the development of efficient semiconductor quantum light sources. This involves sources of single photons, indistinguishable photons and entangled photon pairs under optical and electrical excitation. Such devices are typically based on high quality quantum dots with tailored optical properties such as a diminishing fine structure splitting which are integrated in micro- or nanocavities to enhance and control their spontaneous emission process. We explore different quantum dot and microcavity approaches in order to realize compact and highly efficient quantum light sources for future for quantum communication systems and metrology applications.
